COMMON QUESTIONS HOMEOWNERS HAVE ABOUT SOLAR
What if I need a new roof or am building a new house?
This is the ideal situation for installing solar. The solar design can become part of the plans to ensure the best use of that space once the roofing has been installed.
Are there any hidden costs involved? (Home Insurance)
There are zero hidden costs. SunFlow Solar prides itself on an A to Z, turnkey operation. All our government applications, permits, renderings, engineering, installations, and warranties are what they seem. We still encourage you to insure your panels with your home. Trenching and Squirrel Guards are not included in the price.
What do the terms on-grid and off-grid mean?
On-grid, grid-connected or grid-tied means connected to the utility electrical grid. Our solar electric systems are designed as on-grid systems, meaning that they interconnect with your existing utility service. Off-grid refers to systems that are not connected to the utility electrical grid.
What are the components of a solar system?
A solar electric system, also called a photovoltaic (PV) system, is made up of different components. These include PV modules (groups of PV cells), which are commonly called PV panels, an inverter, for a utility-grid-connected system, and when alternating current (ac) rather than direct current (dc) is required, wiring and mounting hardware or a framework. These are the components for a microFIT solar system – the kind the government is giving contracts for. An off-grid system would also have one or more batteries and a charge regulator or controller.
What are the costs for maintenance?
No regular maintenance is typically necessary for your solar system. With no moving parts and long-term warranties you can relax knowing you’ve invested in a very stable, reliable money maker.
Are there any major advances on the horizon that I should hold out for?
Advancements are happening frequently but all of these are a long way from being affordable. Once those advancements do become affordable, the Ontario government will simply drop the price they pay for new contracts and so your exact same roof will earn less if you wait. Now is the time to lock in your contract at the highest rate they’ll ever be offering.
How do I know if my roof is getting enough sunlight?
There are many factors that determine how effective your solar panels will be. The direction your home is facing, the angle and condition of your roof. As long as there are no large structures or trees blocking your roof, you should be good to go for solar!
If I do have a problem, who takes care of it, and what are the costs involved?
In the event of a problem, contact SunFlow Solar, we offer a 3-year installation warranty. After the warranty period has passed, it then falls to the manufacturer's 25-year warranty. Third party insurance warranty is added for extra protection.
